Some very random bits this week and plenty of cycling links to reflect the coming summer season (though I don’t recommend the new women’s clothing line featured here).
- Cambridge, in the UK, is undertaking a new project to get women onto their bikes by making it a bit of a fashion event. I hope it works since I’d like to see plenty of women choosing cycling as their commuting vehicle of choice when they live in a small city like that.
- It appears that we should all be using slow-cooking, stewing and steaming methods to cook food, rather than frying or other excessive heating methods. That way we can reduce the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
- While we’re on the subject of cooking food, I mentioned in my raw food post that I hadn’t, at that point, finished reading Richard Wrangham’s book that explains why starting to cook food was an evolutionary turning point for human. To save you reading the book, this BBC article summarises it nicely. Alternatively, Mistress Krista at Stumptuous has looked in detail at a paper published in the Journal of Human Evolution that Richard Wrangham has co-authored.
- I’ve found some stunning photos that could inspire anyone to do the sort of wild camping wilderness walking that I often choose to do.
- If you are looking for some nutrition and training advice, read this interview with Georgie Fear on Precision Nutrition.
- How much Vitamin D is the right amount? Don on Primal Wisdom has been exploring the subject and it’s really very fascinating.
- I nearly choked on my dinner when I opened the link to this article and saw the new line of cycling wear for women being badged as timelessly fashionable. I’m a woman. I want to be stylish. This clothing line definitely doesn’t hit the mark. The tester has some very apt descriptions of this hideous new clothing line.
- Dan John is an great go-to guy for tips and information in the fitness industry and I was glad that Chris at The Garage Gym Online put together his top ten Dan John articles as a good reference resource. I was less impressed when he told me that we would be trying the 40 day programme later this year…

- Jenn Flemming is a female rock climber who is going to be worth keeping an eye on over the coming years. She’s already achieved some amazing feats and I’ve no doubt there’s plenty more to come.
Right. I’m off to chalk up and try some climbing moves in advance of the summer.
