There’s been lots of information coming out on the internet this week and a whole host of other things I’ve seen too. Here’s a pick of the best.
- Bodybuilding.com came up with some secrets for people getting ready to compete in their first fitness or figure competition. While it’s not the most in-depth article you’ll ever read on the subject it’s a fun summary if you’re interested in getting started.
- The Guardian newspaper runs an Environment Bike blog. For those of you based in the UK who know the character of the different daily newspaper this will not come as a surprise. What is refreshing is the mix of articles they write on it, and a recent one about the unwritten ethical codes of cycling in the Tour de France caught my eye. What interests me most though is the way these sorts of unwritten rules apply in so many other sports that I am interested in, like Strongman competitions.
- In the development stages at the moment is an interview with a friend of mine who is getting married in just over a week so a few wedding-related things have been catching my eye. I really liked some of Mark Sisson’s suggestions for making your wedding Primal.
- Sticking with the wedding theme for one more link, here’s the story of one woman using her wedding as a motivation to get in shape.
- I’m going to have to make sure I don’t end up linking to every single one of Chris’s book reviews, but this one caught my eye. Chris was a passionate swimmer when I first met him, I still remember sometimes being woken at 5am as he got up to go to a strenuous training session before heading on to work. It’s therefore no surprise that his review of Off the Deep End is filled with deep feeling and some even deeper observations. If this review doesn’t convince you to read this book, I’m not sure what would.
- Do you want to see a funny picture, reminiscent of what I (and many others) look like at the end of a hard training session? Consider the case of Human vs. Rope. I’d love to know what was going on before this was taken!
- I was a big fan of hill sprints for the short period I did them last year. I’m still planning to start them again sometime (soon…) since sprints are meant to be great for getting rid of that final bit of skin fold at the bottom of the glutes. If you are someone who is thinking of trying out sprints (either on a hill or on the level) then I highly recommend reading Jason Ferruggia’s excellent Hill Sprints for Fat Loss article before you get started. It’ll advise you on why it works as well as what good technique should look and feel like.
- Something fun for the ladies. Here’s a Time article about a recent study suggesting that women get more sexually active in their 30s and 40s.
- The next TEDWomen conference has been announced for December 2010 in Washington. If you are interested then you can learn more on the TEDWomen website.
- I found this article from the Telegraph fascinating, highlighting the quick reactions a body can have to potassium levels. What was more frightening though was that the reduced potassium levels were brought about by a high consumption of Coca-Cola in less than one day.
To sign off, here’s a video which I’m pretty sure I’ve not shared before. This guy not only has great body composition but does some amazing one-arm chin and muscle-up feats too.
Have a great weekend everyone!
